An early morning pick up from your hotel for a scenic coach journey to Cape Jervis taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. On arrival, board the SeaLink Kangaroo Island ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Here you will meet your host, Mark Koolmatrie, a Ngarrindjeri elder and tour guide.
Mark will accompany you on a 45-minute walk in Penneshaw investigating Australia bush foods and bush medicines and he will begin discussing the culturally enriched stories of sites of deep significance. The stories will be from the beginning of the Kalowinyeri (creation) unfolding the layers of history, tales, and traditions of the local tribes to the current custodians of Kangaroo Island.
Your next stop will be at Seal Bay Conservation Park, where you will hear about the sealing industry through Ngarrindjeri eyes and how Pungari the seal is an ancient being and good friend of Kondoli the whale.
Enjoy a delicious two-course lunch and then you will be told of the Nurrunderi story, our creator who entered the Kalowinyeri or spirit world and can be seen from Vivonne Bay.
From here, travel to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park. You will hear how Nurrunderi left this world and entered the Kalowinyeri to give the indigenous people life. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities, and the Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal the spectacular rock archway, a natural nursery and haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals.
You will return to Penneshaw with a light dinner, to meet your return ferry and transfer to Adelaide.
The tour operates on select dates starting from 14 December 2024 through till March 2025.
From Adelaide, this tour is a 16-hour day that includes travel to and from Kangaroo Island. You do get time to rest during your ferry transfers and coach travel between attractions.
